PARASHAT VAETCHANAN – 9TH of AV Part 2
PARASHAT VAETCHANAN – 9TH of AV Part 2
Welcome chaverim, in continuing with the second part of the teaching of Parashat Vaetchanan and its significance we need to move into the New Testament now and put everything into perspective. Rav Shaul is not someone who is careless and inefficient with his attitude towards the Torah and compliance thereof. We read all through the Sefer Shelakim and the Epistles how he deals with the Heaviness of the Torah and the implementation by the Ruling class of the day. However, he has been tasked by the Lord to give in a LIGHT VERSION of the Torah to the gentiles who are coming into the faith. The task of caring for them as little children bringing them by the way of Faith through the course that Avraham took before God produced a Jewish soul inside of Him. Moses was a product of the merit of Avraham, the TORAH GIVEN TO Moses was a product of the Faith of Avraham – its foundation. Therefore, the gentiles who were coming gathering in HAVE to come through the process of FAITH the way AVRAHAM pleased God and was given promises and covenants by God’s own pleasure.
It was necessary to do these teaching int 2 parts because of the exhaustive nature of its context. In your bible please turn with me to the following verse Matthew 24:2 “And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down. What do you think Yeshua was saying in this context, just as we learnt in the earlier lesson – do you think it was necessary for the Physical temple – or did this generation really merit having a temple for the Glory of God to Descend and reside within. But we also learnt that the Intention of God was always to have our bodies as the TEMPLE OF GOD in John Chapter 2:13 – 22 “ And the Jews Passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem, And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting, And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables; And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise. And his disciples remembered that it was written, the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up. Then answered the Jews and said unto him, What sign show thou unto us, seeing that thou do these things? Jesus answered and said unto them, destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? But he spoke of the temple of his body. When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.
When Yeshua said about not one stone will be remaining upon one another he was referring to the collective Kingdom of God – because the word for Mason cut stone is EBEN (אֶבֶן ) which is the root word for SON in Hebrew (Ben) now we can also build around the root word and get the Syllable BANAH (בָנָה). This is how the Hebrew language is built around a root structure – so come to think of it Yeshua was saying that the Children of Israel were the Stones that when built will make up the Kingdom of God – in a perfect way each SON is important to the Overall Plan. Israel was formed by God and they were supposed to produce within themselves individually and collectively a Holy Place so that God can dwell inside of them. Yeshua was perfectly aware of how important his own physical body was – How Holy, and pure and sanctified it had to remain even during his physical lifetime on earth for 33 years. He even challenged them to break, kill and destroy his body and he will be able to raise it up in 3 days. The Jews misunderstood Him for he spoke about his Body while referring to the temple standing that did not have merit to be standing in the first place because they were sinning against each other with Sinat Chinam – that Generation was most unworthy of having a Physical Temple.
Okie -we have mostly answered ourselves about why the temple was destroyed on the 9th of Av on both occasions – the first though was made with a good intention and some merit of King David and Solomon and fell in disrepute and desecration subsequently because the people rebelled and disobeyed – making themselves impure and did not merit it, the second because they never could have had merit to build it in the first place – because it had gone through various phases of construction form Ezra to Nehemiah, then the Maccabees and lastly King Herod design – who was not a Jew but a Edomite. So the 2nd temple never really had any Merit or purpose being there in the first place. In Matthew 10:28 Yeshua says “And fear not them which kill the body but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Further in Matthew 5:29-30 Yeshua says “And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hellץ
Let me put something into perspective that way I think it probably makes sense to look at what Yeshua is saying here “The emphasis He is laying is not only on the Soul or the Body but both together, combined, entwined, and I think he is very clear that the Body in essence is just as important to the person as the Soul. Yeshua himself resurrected his Own body not someone else’s, and even in the regeneration of everything God is going to give us back a Body pure and holy that is able to contain the Divine Soul of each of us making us a perfect Man just as He is perfect.
Sickness, troubles in the flesh, family problems, diseases, and all sorts of issues that people experience here on earth is because of the Impurities of the Flesh and these impurities break down the Body little by little and ultimately separate the Divine from the Material thus separating the two – an anomaly that should have never happened. Adam and Chavah sinned and the process of decoupling started and over generations since then the speed of separation has increased rapidly, we now live in an age where people even die young, something very unheard of among the ancients. However, the worst precursor that brings on impurities in a human body is the effect of crime and transgression against one another – the punishment as we had learnt last time is sure death. We all die because we are born in iniquity and impurity, everyday of our waking lives we are accumulating impurities leading to Death (Tumah Met) the Ultimate impurity that God detests because it is the farthest point away from Him and the direct opposite of Himself – LIFE. Life is what Lives; death is what Dies – the two are completely opposite each other
So therefore for creation there is a regeneration that will take place sometime much further down the timeline; Rav Shaul says: Romans 8:19 - 23 Rav Shaul says: “For the earnest expectation of the creature waits for the manifestation of the sons of God. For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope. Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groans and travails in pain together until now. And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body. See I am with intent taking each one of you into a Sod level midrash of the scriptures and a far deeper understanding of the New Testament – Romans 6:19-22 “I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members, servants to uncleanness and to iniquity; even so now yield your members as servants to righteousness and holiness, for when ye were servants of sin you were free from righteousness. For what fruit had you in those things for which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is Death, but now being made free from sin and become servants to God, you have your fruit to holiness and the end everlasting Life”
Now in 1 Corinthians Chapter 3:9-17 Rav Shaul spells out exactly what we surmised earlier; for we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building. And then he goes to say he is a wise master builder who has laid a foundation which is Jesus Christ and in verse 16 he then says “know you not that ye are the temple of God, and the Spirit of God dwells inside of you, IF ANY MAN DEFILE THE Temple of God. Him shall God destroy, for the Temple of God is Holy which temple you are” Then from chapters 4 onwards RAV Shaul goes on rampage here dissecting the impurities and the uncleanness among the believers, talking about fornication, idolators, coveters, extortioners, drunkards will not inherit the kingdom of God. In chapter 7:15 “Know you not that your bodies are the members of Christ (Anointing) shall I then take the members of Christ (anointing) and make them members of a harlot? God forbids. In verse 19 he says that the body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, which is in you, for you are bought with a price therefore Glorify God in your Body and in your Spirit which are God’s
Friends I hope I am able to bring to the forefront the concept of what the Bible is portraying to us – Our bodies together comprise of the Holy Mikdash that God wanted to Inhabit in the very first place. The perfect example of the same is the Body of Yeshua Himself – the Vessel that was formed in spotless Purity and perfection being completely untainted from the impurities of this creation even from the Womb of Miriyam – so that the Fullness of the Essence of God could dwell inside of it. The destruction therefore of the physical body is a microscopic representation of the Beit Mikdash – remember Rav Shaul talks about the regeneration of the Body in the end. The first 2 temples were destroyed because the children of Israel were not able to keep themselves Whole and Pure (shlamim) and Tamim ( Spotless) and it is in the New Testament Paul brings out the concept very clearly – nevertheless we have to truly reach deep into the theology and mind of Paul to grasp how he is interpreting the Torah in a lighter version for the Gentiles who are coming into the covenant.
When we look at the world we see today – all that the Humanity is going through in terms of suffering and natural disasters, Diseases, accidents, unfortunate acts of God are all the result of us Humans disregarding the laws and statutes that God has out in place for running this creation smoothly, Humans have violated it Believer and Non believer both. Then what about Israel and the Jewish People-do they really deserve a 3rd Temple, I am confident that they will never have the merit to build it. Therefore, Yeshua had to come first and build the temple within us first and then collectively when the world stands rectified and gains merit the 3rd temple will be built – and the King will reign from there in eternity. May we never make the same mistake the 3rd time over – But I think the Bible hints at it nevertheless – the Antichrist will enter into the Holy place and declare himself God – so brace up we are probably going to go in for another round of temple episode destruction just around the corner.
Let me End with the Beginning in mind Genesis 3:9 Hashem asks Adam EICHAH ?? which translates as HOW DID THIS HAPPEN !!!!! a shock statement not really a question. The perfect creation the complete balanced perfection and sufficiency of elements that can support Life all for the sake of Humanity – but the Human failed and God was found himself looking for an answer. The Punishment given to them was the Body will perish and separate form the Divine Soul thus destroying the physical. The Rectification in the End will be the regeneration of the Physical body because Yeshua Resurrected the Physical body into perfection. So friends when we look at this Torah Portion and think about the 9Th of AV look at yourselves and the say the word EICHAH ???? How did this happen? Jeremiah writes a book called Lamentations for the reason of the destruction Jerusalem and the temple – In Hebrew it is called EICHAH – because the first paragraph starts with that word.
Coming back to the Torah Portion Moses knew that the people will be destroyed because they were sinning with each other therefore they will go into exile – the effect of which the life and temple which going to be built will all be broken down. In Deuteronomy 3:1-3 Moses Pleads with God (VaEtchanan) saying let me into the land so I can see it for myself. But God was angry about it and asked never to speak about this matter again – God saw the future and the terrible things that would have happened if Moses would have entered the Land. This I think is because God in his wisdom saw that Moses being a faithful servant and giving the Law and looking after the People for 40 years will go to the land and will not be able to lift them up spiritually and allow the people to be involved in the physicality of the Torah – in other words he would not be able to make them internalize the Torah and elevate them to perfection. Moses never entered the Land.
We are the body of Christ (Anointing) not because of what we do or have done, as merit – it is because what Yeshua has done for us – lets analyse ourselves and see whether this anointing is good enough in power and wisdom for our lives. If our Lives on the earth is filled with impurities, diseases, problems, decaying and wasting away – then we need to analyse how far away we are in the rectification of our souls – Let us keep ourselves pure and Holy a vessel fit and ready for the indwelling of Gods Holy Spirit for good works in Yeshua – which is our only Hope. Let this day the 9th of AV always be a reminder that what is good holy and perfect can be destroyed in a truly short time if we sin.
Be always strengthened and keep in prayer and Purity chaverim
Barukh HaShem
