Yehochanan (יְהוֹחָנָן) Ha Matbil
John the Immerser
The Angel (Malakh מַלְאַךְ) asked Zechariah to name his Son Yehochanan (יְהוֹחָנָן).
The first two letter of his name represent God Yah יה.
Vav(ו) means Connector. Chen(חן) means Grace. Nun Sofit at the end denotes becoming Straight (Yashar יָשָׁר) from being bent earlier.
(Yashar יָשָׁר) with God(אל) from where we get the word Israel(ישראל).
His role is spelled out in his name, meaning to be a connector to help everyone be in the right standing (straight Yashar יָשָׁר) with God. This is so that the way to accept the Mashiach is prepared thereby becoming Israel (someone who is straight with God)
Yesha'yahu 40:3 (יְשַׁעְיָהוּ מ:ג) and it says ‘a voice of one calling: in the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God’.
He was sent before Yeshua Ha'Mashiach to prepare the way and to make the path straight.
His role was very crucial in preparing the people to be back to the Torah of God which was given to Moses.
